Some dating stories for online dating sites are wild. While you might be online, you never know what someone is going to do or say when they have a little bit of privacy. In collaboration with this site, we collected weird dating stories. After all, when you’re trying to make a relationship work online, there are plenty of ways that things can go wrong. While none of these stories are going to churn your stomach, you might get some second-hand embarrassment from the outcomes here!
1. Mario in The Parent Trap
I started seeing this girl online. She was everything I wanted in a partner- I’m older and she was younger. She was cute, went to the same college as me, and we both had similar interests. As we started talking more and more, I thought that we should take things to the next level. She kept putting it off, telling me that she didn’t have a camera and the voice controls weren’t working on her phone.
So, I got a little suspicious of what was happening. Eventually, she agreed to have a chat through the site. When I heard her voice, I could tell right away that this wasn’t some sweet 20-year-old girl. This lady sounded like she was a pack-a-day smoker and then some. It turns out that her mother was catfishing guys like me while using a picture of her daughter. I needed a few weeks away from dating after that one.
2. Tara in Mom’s Baby Girl
We’ve all found someone online and thought they were the hottest person, right? Well, I met this guy online. He was definitely too far away for us to get together, but neither one of us had a problem with talking dirty on the site. I never thought of someone seeing my messages since everything is right on the site. Well, as it turns out, my mom saw a notification on my phone pop up when I was home visiting.
She had been trying to pry into my dating life, but I’m such a private person because she always wanted details. She unlocked my phone screen and saw a very NSFW message waiting for me along with all of the stuff that I had sent him. It was awful. I got back from taking a shower and she told me that she had deleted the app and messaged my boyfriend telling him that I “was a young lady that didn’t need to be talking like that.” She completely ignored the fact that I was 21 and had definitely sent worse stuff to him than the other ay around.
Anyway, we’ve been dating for four years now and I even brought him over. My mom doesn’t know it’s the man that was trying to besmirch her daughter! We still joke about it.
3. Madelyn in What a Brunch of Trouble!
I’ve been out of the dating game for a while, but then I decided to try meeting someone my own age online. I’m in my 40s, so I’m no stranger to building relationships with men. I met a man that was really interesting. He was well-educated, had a job in a city close by, and he seemed like a completely normal person. We chatted here and there, played tag in the messages since he worked odd hours. One day, we both managed to have some free time, so we started chatting.
I had just gotten home from brunch with my friend, and I talked about it with him. Out of nowhere, he starts to go completely off the rails about whether I had brunch of a late breakfast. He asked if there were crepes, fruit, eggs, champagne, and a dozen other things. He told me that it had to start after 10:30 a.m. to be considered a real brunch. He said I didn’t have brunch because it started too early and didn’t have crepes! I was completely dumbfounded that such a nice person had such an ugly side to them!
4. Tom in It’s Good to Have Friends
Okay, so this was the weirdest experience that I’ve ever had with online dating. I’m just out of college, so I’m 21- tops. The woman (Rachel) that I meet on the site is a little older. Like, she’s in her mid-40s but smoking hot. We get to chatting online and we both decide that we want to hear more from one another. So, we spend a couple of days talking and having a good time with each other. I start t get excited and then she ghosts me. I was like, okay, that’s fair enough. I came on too strong.
I heard from her again three days later and she said she was out of town and ready to meet. I was a little wary because we hadn’t really talked about meeting in person yet, and I didn’t like the way that she just brushed me off for a few days. I said maybe, I just need some time to think about it. I go to work that night as a waiter, and I am asked to go meet a customer that was asking for me by name. I walked into the entrance of the restaurant, and Rachel is standing there decked out in a little black dress.
My jaw hit the floor. As it turns out, she was a friend of my mom and had found out who I was and got a little freaked out. I didn’t care though. I faked being sick and went to have one of the wildest nights of my life. The date started online but it sure didn’t end there!
As you can see, there are a lot of ways that dates can get weird. From people showing up at your workplace and taking you out on a date to finding out that someone has a weird desire to be right all the time, a lot can happen. Keep an eye out for your privacy and keep away from the weirdos because they’re definitely out there!
