Harry Potter has been a big part of everyone’s lives growing up. You either grew up with the books or with the movies. Either way, we all love Professor Snape and hate Umbridge.

Young readers in today’s world try to find various books that will suck them into a fictional world with magic or fantastical elements. In this context, Kids Book Reading Subscription Box always encourage young children to read and explore their imagination through words and texts because it helps their cognitive development and increases their ability to think for themselves. Here is a list of books that will make worldbuilding more fun for these readers and get them into fantasy reading:

1. Percy Jackson

This book may be infamous and is always compared to the series of Harry Potter. This series of five books by Rick Riordan is a perfect read after a hard day of studying. Everyone follows a lot of magic and, believe it or not, Gods, specifically Greek Gods.

Synopsis

A little child learns that Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, is his father. He travels around America to uncover the underworld and the unknown world while staying at a camp with multiple other demigods like him. This is an exciting read with exciting villains and twisted plots.

Imagine strolling around in your school or your house, and you are immediately met with your “cool” uncle, who introduces you to a passage that will lead you to a different world. Interesting, isn’t it? Bobby Pendragon, an eleven-year-old boy, got to experience it.

This became an excellent read for all young adults because of the interesting characters that were written. D.J. MacHale wrote this series to introduce a different world with a very serious and deadly antagonist. This is loved by all teenagers out there and is one of the best books after Harry Potter.

Synopsis

The ten-book series follows the experiences of Bobby Pendragon, a young American who learns to wander through time and space to save the 10 “territories,” or crucial moments in the universe.

3. Alex Rider

You will love this book if you like fantasy with a hint of mystery.

This book follows a 14-year-old boy named Alex Rider who turns into a spy after his uncle and guardian mysteriously die in an accident. This book makes readers think and root for their favorite protagonist, who uncovers all his uncle’s secrets and takes his place as a young prodigy.

Synopsis

Teen spy Alex Rider has always been compared to his father, whom he never met. But Alex’s life is turned upside down when he discovers that his father might have been an assassin for Scorpia, the most dangerous and potent terrorist group in the world.

4. Eragon

Dragons are the protagonist of this book, and that is enough to tell you why this is such an exciting read!

Written by Christopher Paolini, Eragon takes place in the fictional world of Alagaesia and is one of the deadliest yet heart-warming series I have ever read. Following a dragon and conveying our feelings for the same is something that not a lot of books allow you to do, but throughout the four-book series, you cannot seem to put the book down. This may be a little advanced read for children, but a slow and challenging read is always better for the kid.

Synopsis

A dragon egg is discovered in the Spine by 15-year-old farm lad Eragon while he is out hunting. When the egg breaks and a dragon emerge, the boy inherits the duties of the Dragon Riders. He begins on a mission to slay the Ra’zac in retaliation for his uncle’s murder and, ultimately, to overthrow the vile tyrant that rules Alagasia.

5. Bartimaeus

Long gone have the days of Aladdin and big blue old genie. Bartimaeus is a much better series of books that follow a young boy and his genie named Bartimaeus. We follow this “slaves” life and his magical powers to overthrow a bookish villain triumphally. Written by Jonathan Stroud, it is the next best thing after the Harry Potter series with supernatural elements and the historical past.

Synopsis

The plot follows a young magician named Nathaniel (also known as John Mandrake) and a five-hundred-thousand-year-old genie named Bartimaeus through an alternate history of the height of London’s dominance as a magical oligarchy.
